Untitled

I wrote this just today.I was studying history and for some weird reason or another, inspiration just hit me.My first poetry in like hell knows how long.I can't quite think of a good title for it...

O hark!My darling,
Shape thy ears to my tongue.
Give up hope not in thyself,I prithee.
Come what may,falter not
Only hold fast to thy talents.

O hearken,ye friends.Hearken!
On this perilous journey we have come thus far.
Worry not for thy fate and thy fortunes.
Eat,drink and be glad while merriments last
For cruel fate shalt soon intervene.

Hearken!All ye foes of woe,
Ye who bear curses on thy lips
Ye wretched faces of malice,be gone!
The time hast come for thy eternal damnation
Burn.Die.Drown in the fiery legions of hell.

Bittersweet Valentine’s

I wrote this during the Valentine's week this year.Got inspiration from various places.I happened to be listening to Within Temptation's "Memories" so I sort of incorporated the chorus part in here somewhere.I also got inspired from some book I read. Can't remember the title though.since that week was Valentine's week so just wanted to have a love theme..but since you know I don't particularly like mushy love stories so I kinda made this story a darker one.

“Love is all that I can give to you. Love is more than just a game for two…”

The lyrics of the song were resounding in his ears. He heard it everywhere he went, in school, at the malls, even on television commercials.

“Argh! Gee, can’t they have better songs to play?” he muttered to himself.
It was the 14th of February and he entered the school building, hoping to find her, to give her that beautiful bouquet of red roses that blew a hole in his wallet. Everywhere he looked; his schoolmates all around him were exchanging cards, chocolates, candies and whatever else. There were squeals of delight from the girls who received flowers from ‘secret admirers’. Even the teachers were suddenly acting like teenagers, especially the trainee teachers who were trying to flirt with that hot young PE teacher.

He stood in the foyer and gazed at the decorations hanging from the ceilings and the walls. “Man, they’ve really gone all out this year,” he thought. He went and stood by the bulletin board where all the messages were put up.

“That’s funny. It’s the first time they’re doing this. Must’ve been a change in the wind,” he laughed. He skimmed through some of the messages. One of them said “Moii darlinx worhx, ii lubbx euu worhx.Euuu r moii onne n onii worhx.4eva ii will be by ur side worhx.lubbx euuu moii boii.xoxoxo” That message sent chills all over his being. “There’s no mistakening it’s written by Kellyn. Trying to poke fun at twits again,” he chuckled.

He continued skimming through them. Many of them were anonymous but he could roughly recognize the handwritings. He saw an anonymous pink one whose handwriting was none other than his best bud Caleb. He read through it and smiled. So, Caleb finally confessed his feelings to Germaine after so long.

He remembered the other time when they were having a council meeting. They had to pair up to come up with a good proposal for the fund-raiser. They were all trying to pair Caleb and Germaine up. Caleb caused such a commotion. He got so nervous that he would have escaped from the room if not for Desmond and Wilfred holding him back.

Thinking back, he laughed again. That bastard, always acting like he was some cool dude and constantly flirting with all the hot girls. However, when it came to cool and pretty Germaine, he was downright hopeless and embarrassment-prone.

He walked to the canteen. The canteen was even more elaborately decorated than the foyer. Gee, Valentine’s Day is getting more and more overrated. There was this booth at one corner selling chocolate-coated strawberries and marshmallows and other heart-shaped lollipops and candies. There was a long queue there as everyone flocked there to get last minute gifts. He shook his head and walked on. He could not find his friends in the canteen. They must have gone to the usual spot.

He climbed the stairs to the top floor and headed to the library. Outside, there were the study tables where the whole gang would always hang around. It was where they met up during breaks, when they skipped lessons, rushing assignments or studying.

When he reached that spot, they were nowhere in sight. “Where the bloody hell are they?” he wondered. That area, which usually has students moving in and out of the library chattering and laughing and whacking each other, was devoid of all that.

Then he heard it, a clear smooth and distinct voice. The tone was melodious and lovely, yet it sounded sad and forlorn. Could it be…could it be..no,it couldn’t be, could it? He walked in the direction of the voice.

“All of my memories keep you near. It’s all about us, imagine you’ll be here. All of my memories keep you near. The silent whispers, the silent tears….”

He knew that song. He knew that voice, those oddly familiar strains. He increased his pace and came to the bend in the corridor. He stopped in his tracks and drew in a sharp breath. “I found her!” he whispered in excitement.

Right there at the railings, there she stood. Her hair was let down and the wind was running through it. Her slender arms were resting on the railings and her chin was cupped in one of her palms. Her eyes held a faraway gaze. “A true portraiture of serenity,” he thought, the voice, that sweet voice, was hers. Carmen.

She seemed not to notice him standing a few feet behind and continued singing. He contemplated whether to go up behind her and cover her eyes and ask her to guess who it was or to just whisper “Boo!” in her eyes and give her a tiny shock. He decided on the latter and when he took a step towards her, she turned around to face him. Her eyes lit up and her lips turned upwards into a small smile. He spread his arms, waiting for her to run to him so he could embrace her and never let her go. Then, he felt a funny sensation. The next thing he knew, his senior James was by Carmen’s side.

“Baby, I hate seeing you so sad. Cheer up. It’s Valentine’s Day man!” James said to her.

“What the hell’s going on? Why is he calling her Baby? Only I can call her that! What is this fucking business?” he thought, anger flaring up inside him.

“Come on. Let’s go to the canteen. The rest are there. And it’s bloody chilly up here,” James said as he took Carmen’s hand and led her away.

He was stumped and rooted to the ground. His insides tightened. His hands were clammy and he was shaking. His heart sank heavily and crumbled up. “This can’t be happening! My eyes are deceiving me! Goddammit!” he cried out.

Suddenly, reality crashed down upon him. He saw flashes of light around him. He heard metal crashing into metal, the shattering of glass, screeching tyres, wailing sirens. His head was spinning, it was absolute chaos. Everything was a huge blur around him. People were shouting orders at each other but he could not make out what they were saying. There were beeping sounds around him. He was falling faster and faster. He cried out weakly, “Tell her…tell Carmen…I…I love her…and I…am…sorry.” And then, darkness closed in on him.

True Singapore

Most recent one...Written for a lit assignment ...stopped writing since coz no time and no inspiration...

Beautiful city of lights
Island where the glorious sun never sleeps
The land of four million smiles
That welcomes you with open arms
A place of cultural diversity
Where racial harmony prevails

Stop right there and think
Do you really believe what you see?
Is what you’re shown really what you get?
Don’t be fooled.
Don’t fall into the trap.
Think deeper and observe closely.

Beneath that façade
Lies hypocrisy and selfishness
Away from the amiable social scene
Hides the ongoing strife for the best
It’s all about me and me alone.
Don’t get in my way.

Out of Reach

A rather recent one...whether it's fact or fiction go figure...It was written at the beginning of this year...oh,and I kinda realised that it's a little bit similar to Aqualung's "Strange and Beautiful".As in the theme.About the inability to have someone or something.Go check the lyrics out if you dunno what i'm talking about.

From the corner of a room,
There I stood.
At the other corner,
There you were.

As my longing gaze rests on you,
I sigh.
You are so near,
But yet you seem so far off.

It grieves me much
Knowing that I cannot have you.
Not in this lifetime
All except in my pathetic dreams.

You may not know me,
My name or my face
Nor even acknowledge the very existence of my being
But still, you’re the one I’m falling hard for.

My Aphrodite

I can't remember where I got the inspiration...written in the perspective of a guy...

As she passes me,
I inhale the sweet-smelling perfume she wears.
An intoxicating and tantalising aroma
That fills my senses.

The ends of her long auburn hair
Brushes against my skin.
Soft and fine is the texture
Of her rich dark locks.

I call out her name and she turns around.
Her gorgeous almond eyes brightening up
And her full lips lift up into a smile
Revealing her straight pearly-white teeth.

She walks towards me
Like she was modelling on a Parisian runway
Sashaying her hips to and fro
Tossing her dark mane flirtatiously with those slender fingers.

As she moves nearer and nearer,
I can feel my pulse racing
My heart pounding to her rhythmic walking
My veins throbbing with her every move.

She reaches me and throws her arms around me
Her lips met mine in a long passionate kiss
Our hands encircling each others back.
Alas, the picture of love is complete.

Yes, that’s my girl, my love
My teenage angel, my heavenly goddess
Her hands are solely mine to hold.
Her lips, mine to kiss.

She belongs to me.
My one and only
My Aphrodite.

Fire in my heart

an incomplete gothic poem...have yet to complete it..

Numb is the core of my heart
No longer can I feel
The blazing fire in my heart
Flames dancing to the rhythm of my heartbeat
Killing all affections in me

The End of Me

a very short 4-line gothic poem..

Black is the core of my existence
Morbidly I trudge through the ominous plane of existence
Until dark shadows strip me of my turmoil
Death, blood, darkness,
Thou art my destruction

Deep Inside

written on behalf of a friend who's nursing a heartache because the guy she loves doesn't love her back...

Putting on a facade,
Appearing like everything's alright,
Seeming like she has moved on
But deep inside,
She’s not okay.

Behind that facade
Lies a tormented soul
Habouring her pain
Tangled up in a web
Of mixed feelings.

She’s broken inside
She’s twisting up in anguish
Time just cannot wipe away
All the grief
That seems to linger on.

The cut is deep
Like a valley
The river of blood is flowing
Running rapidly downstream
Even though no one sees it.

No one knows
No one can understand
No one can comprehend
No one can feel
What she really feels

No one but her alone.

Real Face of Love

written at 15... after hearing endless accounts of unreciprocated feelings,break-ups and all that...

The feeling of doubt
A feeling that leaves many answered questions
It gives rise to many uncertainties
It causes insecurity
It just leaves us frustrated.

The feeling of rejection
A feeling no one can avoid
It results in strains
It causes heartbreaks
It simply screws everything up.

These are the two culprits
That highlights the harsh realities of love
It proves that love
Can never be that tingly and sugary feeling
Described in love sonnets.

Love is a patchwork of commotions
Love is a bittersweet affair
Love is transient
Love is never reciprocated
Love is shows no compassion.

Face it
In reality
There are no happy endings
There never was and never will be
They will only occur in the realm of fantasy

Spirit of You

about girl who's missing her dead boyfriend...inspiration hit me in chinese class AGAIN...written at 15...with lil bit of inspiration from BBmak's "Ghost of you and me" and Westlife's "Soledad".

Gazing up at the midnight sky
Admiring the bright shining stars
That illuminate the clear dark sky
Glistening like precious diamonds
In a sea of black shadows.

I lay back and closed my eyes
Picturing the image of your face
The twinkle in your laughing eyes
Those dewy lips I long to join mine with
The thick wavy hair I desire to run my fingers through
Those defined cheekbones I used to plant kisses on.

The image vanished from my mind
And tears cascaded down my face like a waterfall
I have lost you
To the eternal grasp of death
I can never have you back with me
Beside me,holding me.

But somehow
I feel your strong arms around me
Enveloping me in your warm embrace
Somehow,
That lingering presence of yours calms my grieving soul
And reminds me
That though death has done us part
The memory of you will never fade away from my heart.

Forever.

Battle Maiden

Found this in between my social studies TB...haha...written at 14 yrs old...an incomplete one coz i lost inspiration...inspired by Feminism in Greek and Celtic mythology

Fearless but cold
Stubborn yet bold
Blessed with the timeless beauty of Aphrodite
Given unto her the wisdom of Athena
Shoots like the archer goddess Artemis
Fights like Ares on the battlefield
Yet cursed with Achilles' pride
And the uncontrollable rage of Nemesis

Loved by her people
Yet hated by envious green-eyed maidens
Adored by men
Whose company she abscured
Broken was the vow she made to remain chaste
When the rich golden shaft of Eros' arrow
Pierced her proud and stubborn heart
And killed all affections in her.

Reign Of Darkness

I can't remember where I got the inspiration but it was written during one of my classes.I think it was sec 2 chinese class.HAHA!I always seem to get inspiration during chinese class..why ah?

Darkness unveils itself
In the dead of the night
Revealing its true inner self
Beneath the dark hooded cloak
Blocking out all rays of light
Coming through the sky
Consuming all happy thoughts and feelings
Throwing out misery and sorrow
Showing no mercy
To those who cry and plea
Causing fear and anxiety
In every mortal's heart
Will we live to see the light again?
Or will our souls simply evaporate
And fade in the distance?

Realm of Solitude

yet another gothic piece...written at 14...the title was an old email I had..then decided to write something from it...

I linger in the quiet hallway
With no one but myself
Solitude embraces my lonely self
Sucking up all my happy thoughts and feelings.

Faintly I hear
A voice calling my name
Is it for real
Or just my mind playing tricks?

I conclude it's just my mind
No one is calling me
No one cares about me
I am isolated from the rest of the world

I am trapped in this realm of solitude
I cannot escape
Loneliness is dominating my soul
Taking away everything happy I ever had.

The World of Today

This was written for a sec 2 holiday Lit assignment.Inspired by BEP's "Where is the Love?" and Jewel's "Stand".

When you walk down the bleak and lonely alley,
What is it that you see?
Homeless and sick people
All looking weak and feeble.
Is there anyone out there
Who’s willing to care?
Or will everyone just turn and walk away,
Pretending everything’s okay?

Look at the world and see,
Whatever happened to humanity?
Senseless killing and fighting everywhere,
Resulting in devastation and despair.
There is so much violence
But only ends with silence.
What happen to world peace?
Is it ceasing to exist?

Many innocent live are taken
Have we been forsaken
By the almighty above,
Whom we worship and love?
Is there a way to end all these,
And bring back peace?
Or will we continue to live in fear,
All through the year?

Numerous questions flood my mind
But the answers are hard to find.
When I look our world, I sigh.
Would it be possible to give peace a try?
Why destroy when we could create?
Keep the peace and erase the hate.
Look with eyes of love, not with hearts of hate
And do it today for tomorrow will be much too late.

Whispering Voices

Inspired by one of Evanescence's songs "Whisper".Again written at 13.Hmm,I'm really into the gothic poetry thing at 13 huh...

Voices whisper long lost words to me
Voices belonging to things which cannot be seen by a mere mortal
Voices which drive weak minds to insanity
Voices of the underworld wish to be set free
To cause utter devastation to humanity.

Fallen

A rather gothic one.Written at 13.It was inspired by the title of Evanescence's album "Fallen".Notice the poem's an acronym of "fallen".

Falling into eternity
Angst and regret now mean nothing to me
Lost in time and space forever
Longing never to see the light again
End is here
Now, I shall rise up to face the end of me

Island on the Sorrowful Sea

It's about a girl whose sailor boyfriend went off to sea and never came back...a bit dramatic..written when i was 13..and this just came into my head when I was sitting in some cafe waiting for my mum.

I'm like a little island
Right smacked in the middle of the vast neverending sea
Cut off from the rest of the world
And drowning in my grieving tears
I wonder what would become of me
If you don't come back into my life.

I'm like a little island
Surrounded by storms and massives waves of sorrow
Because your death left me here alone
For me there will never be a tomorrow
If you don't return to me.

Oh why?Oh why?
Must the ocean take my beloved and my happiness
And left them to die?
My heart is filled with sadness
When I heard the news,my biggest fears.
Like an island on the sorrowful sea
I became engulfed by clouds of pouring tears.

Why oh why must it be you?
Who left me with nothing but pain and grief
And transformed me into an island on the sorrowful sea.

The Merry Yuletide

This was written for a Lit assignment.I wrote it in half an hour on the deadline itself.HAHA!Yes,it's shitty but understand that I was only 13.

Halls are decked with boughs of holly
Carols are sung ever so merrily
The air is filled with joyful laughter
Of both the youths and elders

Children anticipated the moment
When they could open their presents
With much joy and amusement
When the moment came, they tore open their presents excitedly
It's a pleasant sight really.

Christmas trees and decorations
Are put up in every house,
From small cottages to luxurious mansions
Couples make out under the mistletoe
People gather to celebrate this festive occasion
Despite whether they're friends or foes.

Rebel Heart

This was my first poem which is why it's kinda noobie.I was 13 then. This was during the time when I was into gothic poetry and this was inspired by Evanescence's "My Immortal".

I do not wish to be here,
Suppressed by all of my childish fears.
I do not wish to live
A life of misery and grief.
I wish I could just lie there
And die there.
No one would care anyway

Open my eyes and let me see
The feeling deep inside of me.
I pray,
Each and every day
That I shall find the light
To brighten up my night
And save me from the shadows of darkness.

No matter how much I complain,
It cannot take away the pain
From the sadness that I feel
And these deep cuts just won’t heal.
It is all sorrow’s work of art
That made me nothing more than just a rebel heart.

Winning

Ok,this was written during my Sec 2 mid-years.Yeah,I know the language isn't like wow but what do you expect? It was SEC 2!But I got 22/30 though.Anyway, this is also a product of reading too many Lurlene McDaniel books.

Winning means a lot to everyone such as winning the lottery, winning a competition and winning an award for your achievement in a certain area. Everyone wants to win and no one would want to lose. To most people, winning means to win competitions. However, in my friend’s case, she won a battle against heart failure.

I have a friend call Mitzie Andrews who was the best runner in the whole school and represented our school in many competitions and always won almost all of them. She was also a model student and always attained excellent grades. She was a sociable and outgoing person so she was popular among her peers and her teachers. She loved helping others and always puts others before herself.

Unfortunately, one day while running in a four hundred metres race, she suddenly collapsed and fainted on the track. She was rushed to the hospital and I followed her. I waited with her parents in the waiting room and the doctor came in announcing that Mitzie had been diagnosed with heart failure. He also added that Mitzie had been putting too much strain on her heart while running, causing her heart to pump harder and after some time, her heart would become exhausted and gradually wear out. He went on to say that the only way for Mitzie to be well again was for her to have a heart transplant. Mitzie’s mother burst into tears at the news and I buried my face in my hands thinking why this misfortune must happen to my friend. Her father fought back his tears and said he was willing to pay whatever amount of money as long as his only daughter was able to lead a normal life again.

Although Mitzie regained consciousness, she was not fit enough to return home yet. She was discharged two days later after the doctors ran some tests on her. She was also put on a beeper so that she could be alerted if a suitable heart donor was found. I called her home almost every day to give her encouragement. I convinced her to not give up hope and hold on to her unwavering faith in God. I also prayed for her every night before going to bed. A few days later, Mitzie’s mother called me and told me a heart donor had been found. I rushed all the way to the hospital and I silently thanked God for answering my prayers.

When I reached the hospital, I joined Mitzie’s parents in the waiting room while Mitzie was being operated on. I was told by them that the operation would take about four to five hours. I also found out that the heart had belonged to a man who had died in a car crash. I felt kind of sorry for him but at least he helped someone live which I thought was a great deed.

After four hours, the doctor came and told us that the operation was a success and we could see her. We rushed to her ward but Mitzie was still ‘asleep’. When she woke up, we hugged her and were glad she was going to be alright. Then she said she had been told that her new heart might face rejection. My face fell at that but she simply laughed and said she would make sure it would never happen.

Unfortunately, it did happen and she was re-admitted into the hospital and put in the Intensive Care Unit. Her condition was rather critical and the doctors had to run some tests on her. The test results showed that she was facing rejection from her new heart. She had to take pills to suppress the rejection. Her condition improved after a few days and the doctor said her body was gradually getting used to her new heart. However, she was still rather weak.

I was at Mitzie’s bedside almost every day. She was starting to lose hope but I kept saying words of encouragement to her. I urged her to hold on and not let go of her life. I also prayed constantly for improvements in her condition.

Finally, the final round of tests conducted proved she was fit enough to be discharged from the hospital, return to school and lead a normal life. She had to take pills forever to prevent rejection of her heart. She also could not run for at least four months. She was depressed by the news but I told her it was only for a short period and it would soon be over in the blink of an eye.

Mitzie had been fighting an almost losing battle against heart failure but with sheer determination and willpower, she emerged victor in the battle. It truly was a great win and she agreed with me that it was better than winning competitions after competitions. Besides that, the whole incident also drew Mitzie and her family even closer than ever.

HOLA!!

Ok,I've been thinking of having a blog to post all my literary works but I was just too goddamn lazy to do so..HAHA!Until now,so read and enjoy..and tell me what you think...THANKS!
